Data Cabling Installation for London Businesses

A reliable network starts with reliable cabling. We install structured Cat6, Cat6a and multimode fibre cabling for businesses across London, Berkshire and Surrey — whether you are fitting out a new office, relocating or replacing a messy legacy install. Cat6 is our minimum for any new commercial install. Every run is tested, labelled and fully documented before we leave.

Best for

Small businesses that need practical Microsoft 365, network, security and user support without a call centre.

Pricing

Free site visit · Installations quoted on scope · On-site: £80/hour

Response

Remote first where sensible, on-site when hands are needed.

Coverage

London, Berkshire and Surrey for on-site support.

Need cabling and WiFi? We handle both in one visit.

Most offices need structured cabling and wireless access points. Rather than two separate contractors on different days, we install both in one visit — one team, one invoice, one day's disruption.

Why people book this

Business IT support should reduce risk, not just answer tickets.

Verge Tech supports the technology small businesses depend on every day: Microsoft 365, laptops, desktops, Wi-Fi, printers, backups, security, user accounts and business software. Managed clients get a proactive model so obvious risks are handled before they become downtime.

New office fit-out

Cabling goes in before furniture. We work from the floor plan and position data points correctly from the start — Cat6a as standard for any location that will take a PoE++ wireless access point.

Messy legacy install

Unlabelled, untested cable runs with Cat5e on a 10Gbps switch create faults that are slow and expensive to trace. We remediate selectively — keeping what still meets spec, replacing what does not.

Office relocation

Moving premises means rewiring. We scope the new space and get cabling in place before your move date so the team is not offline on day one.

What's included

Everything covered, in plain English.

A clear scope of work so there are no surprises after we arrive. Anything outside this list gets quoted before we start.

Cat6 structured network cabling (office standard — Gigabit to 55m at 10Gbps)
Cat6a structured network cabling (10Gbps over 100m, required for PoE++ access points)
Multimode fibre — OM3 and OM4 (floor-to-floor and inter-switch backbone runs)
Single-mode fibre (OS2) for inter-building and longer campus links
Patch panels, keystone jacks and cable management
Trunking, conduit and cable containment throughout
Wall sockets and face plates, flush-fitted and labelled
Cable testing, labelling and full documentation on every run
Cable tidy and remediation of existing messy installs

How it works

A clear route from problem to fix.

1

Free site visit — we map the space, count data points and check existing infrastructure

2

Quote — itemised by materials and labour, no hidden extras, agreed before work starts

3

Installation — trunking, cable runs, patch panel, termination and cable testing

4

WiFi integration (if required) — access points mounted and configured on the same day

5

Sign-off — every run tested with a cable tester, labelled and documented before we leave

Transparent pricing

Clear routes, no hidden call-out fees.

Most jobs fit one of these three routes. You always see the price before work starts. Bigger jobs get a written fixed quote.

What we install

Structured cabling for offices, clinics and commercial premises.

Every install follows a clean, tested and documented standard. No guessing what is connected where.

Cat6 cabling

Our minimum standard for any new commercial install. Gigabit networking to 55m at 10Gbps, better shielding than Cat5e and backwards compatible with all existing hardware.

Cat6a cabling

10Gbps over the full 100m run. Required for PoE++ powered access points and recommended wherever you may run higher-density WiFi or future 10G switches.

Multimode fibre (OM3/OM4)

Floor-to-floor and switch-to-switch backbone runs. Immune to electrical interference and essential where copper distance or noise is a problem.

Single-mode fibre (OS2)

Long-distance inter-building links — car parks, outbuildings, separate floors on different risers. No signal loss over hundreds of metres.

Patch panels and cable management

Professional termination and labelling at both ends of every run. Clean, documented and easy to extend later.

Sectors we work in

Businesses where network reliability directly affects operations.

Dental practices

Patient management systems, X-ray software and payment terminals need a wired backbone that does not drop. Cat6a for every AP location.

Estate agents

New office fit-outs and branch relocations. Clean, labelled cabling from day one — CRM and phone systems on the same structured install.

Restaurants and hospitality

EPOS terminals, reservations systems, staff and guest networks. Wired backbone keeps transactions fast even when the WiFi is busy.

Solicitors and accountancy firms

Multi-floor offices with data security requirements. Separated wired infrastructure for staff, guest and VoIP.

Logistics and warehousing

Floor-level data points for barcode scanners, stock systems and access control. OM4 fibre for long warehouse runs.

Schools and training centres

PC labs, AV systems, staff and student network separation. Structured Cat6a throughout with fibre between buildings.

Clinics and GP surgeries

EMIS, SystmOne and patient records infrastructure. Dedicated wired network for clinical systems, separate from guest WiFi.

Care homes

Wired infrastructure across the building, combined with WiFi for residents and staff. PoE+ for nurse call and access control integration.

FAQs

Questions people ask before booking.

How many data points does our office need?

A working guide: one data point per workstation, plus additional points for printers, IP phones, wireless access points and any server or switch equipment. We count this at the site visit and include specific recommendations in the quote.

What is the minimum cable grade you install for offices?

Cat6. We do not install Cat5e as the primary cabling for new commercial installs. Cat5e is a home and legacy standard — it cannot sustain 10Gbps reliably and was not designed for the cable densities found in modern offices. Cat6 is the baseline; Cat6a where PoE++ access points or 10Gbps switches are involved.

What is the difference between Cat6 and Cat6a?

Cat6 supports 10Gbps up to around 55 metres and Gigabit to the full 100m. Cat6a supports 10Gbps to the full 100m run and uses better shielding — essential for PoE++ (90W) powered access points, where the heavier sheath handles the heat load. Cat6a is the right choice for any AP location or wherever 10G switches are planned.

When do you use fibre instead of copper?

Fibre is the right choice when the run exceeds 90 metres, when there is significant electrical interference (near motors, lifts or industrial equipment), or when you need 40Gbps or 100Gbps between switches. OM3 or OM4 multimode covers most floor-to-floor and switch-to-switch scenarios. OS2 single-mode is used for long inter-building runs where copper or multimode would fall short.

Do you install fibre optic cabling?

Yes. We install OM3 and OM4 multimode fibre for switch-to-switch connections, floor-to-floor links and backbone runs. For longer inter-building distances we use OS2 single-mode. For very large scale or campus-wide fibre projects we will advise upfront on scope and contractor options.

Can you work with our existing cabling?

Yes. We test existing runs and keep anything that passes current spec. Sections that fail or need replacing are dealt with selectively — we do not pull out an entire installation if part of it still works. Cat5e runs that pass a Fluke tester can often stay if the switch speeds and distances support it.

How long does a data cabling installation take?

A small office with 10–15 data points typically takes one day. Larger installations are scoped at the site visit and scheduled around your working hours where possible.
