Amazon Gift Card Scam Warning: How to Spot and Stop It

Criminals are tricking people into disclosing their credentials.

Amazon user accounts have been exploited to purchase gift cards from devices not previously associated with the users' accounts, according to a new round of phishing emails. There is a link to cancel the order in case it was done by accident or by an unauthorised party in scam mailings. The link takes you to a phoney Amazon login page that resembles the real thing. You'll be able to access your account by logging in.

Avoiding phishing attacks:

  • It's important to remember that the holiday shopping season is a popular time for all kinds of scammers. In an email, avoid clicking on links that are embedded.
  • Go to the Amazon app or website, and type the URL manually into your browser if you have any concerns about your recent purchases.
