Ubiquiti UniFi Wi-Fi Installation for a Busy Surrey Restaurant

The Problem

A high-footfall restaurant in Surrey was struggling with severe Wi-Fi reliability issues. Their mobile POS (Point of Sale) tablets frequently disconnected while staff were taking orders at tables, causing delays and frustration during peak dinner services.

Additionally, they were using a standard consumer-grade ISP router located in the back office to cover the entire venue. Guests were complaining about the poor Wi-Fi signal, and there was no network segregation—meaning guest devices were connected to the same network as the business's payment terminals, posing a significant security risk.

The Solution

We began with a full site survey to identify dead spots and thick structural walls blocking the signal. Based on the survey, we designed and installed a Ubiquiti UniFi network tailored for high-density environments.

• Structured Data CablingWe installed fresh Cat6 cabling from the comms cabinet to strategic ceiling points across the dining area, ensuring the new access points had reliable Gigabit backhaul.
• UniFi Access PointsWe deployed UniFi Wi-Fi 6 access points, providing smooth roaming so staff tablets stay connected as they move between the kitchen, bar, and dining areas.
• Network Segregation (VLANs)We configured separate Virtual LANs (VLANs) for the POS terminals, back-office computers, and the public Guest Wi-Fi, completely isolating business traffic from public devices.

The Results

Since the installation, the restaurant has experienced 100% uptime on their mobile POS terminals. Staff can now take orders efficiently without apologizing for system dropouts. Guests enjoy fast, reliable Wi-Fi through a branded captive portal, while management has peace of mind knowing the payment network is fully secured and segregated.
